In an incredible story of resilience and determination, 34-year-old Priscah Nyangasi has captured the hearts of her village in Cheboite, Nandi County. The mother of four overcame significant challenges to score a C+ in the recently released 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results, rekindling her dream of becoming a nurse.

A Journey Filled with Sacrifices
Priscah’s journey has been anything but easy. She dropped out of school in 2005 after completing her KCPE due to a lack of school fees and the responsibilities that came with an early pregnancy. At just 16 years old, she married her child’s father and settled into family life, putting her dreams on hold.
Sixteen years later, with the unwavering support of her husband, Joseph Kiptum Kemboi, a security officer at Kaimosi Tea Factory, Priscah made the courageous decision to return to school in 2021. She started as a Form One student at Chepkumia Secondary School, later transferring to Goibei Girls Secondary School in Vihiga County for her final year.
“I had a dream of being a nurse,” Priscah shared. “I told my husband I needed to go back to school, and he agreed. That’s how my journey began again.”
Balancing Family and Education
Priscah’s determination to succeed was matched by her husband’s commitment to supporting her. While she focused on her studies, Joseph took care of their children, juggling his job and household responsibilities.
“It was not easy since I was far away from my husband and children,” Priscah admitted. “I only saw my family during the holidays. But my husband was very supportive.”
The couple’s eldest daughter, Winnie Jepkoech, who scored a B plain in her 2023 KCSE exams, also served as an inspiration for Priscah’s academic journey.
A Family United in Dreams
Priscah’s achievements have brought hope to her family, who have long battled financial challenges. Her children’s education remains a top priority, with her eldest awaiting university admission, her second-born studying in Form Two at Samoei Boys Secondary School, and her youngest two still in primary school.
“We hope to get support from well-wishers and the government to ensure both my daughter and I can pursue our dreams and uplift our family from poverty,” Priscah said.
A Husband’s Pride
Joseph Kemboi, Priscah’s husband, is immensely proud of her accomplishments. “I am happy she made me proud. I hope she will get assistance, along with my daughter, in their endeavors. God is really great. With my small hustle, this is what we have achieved,” he said.
Looking Ahead
Priscah’s C+ qualifies her to join a university, bringing her one step closer to her dream of becoming a nurse. Her story is a testament to the power of resilience, family support, and the belief that it is never too late to pursue your dreams.
As Priscah and her family look forward to the next chapter, their story serves as an inspiration to many, proving that with determination and support, anything is possible.
Congratulations, Priscah Nyangasi, on your incredible achievement!
